There are several exciting topics taught in third grade through out the school year!
In reading, we focus on transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Students will practice comprehension (understanding what they read) and analyzing information from the text. Each week, students will learn new vocabulary words, reading strategies/skills, and a grammar topic. The Storytown curriculum is used to teach a majority of the reading concepts.
In math, students will be building on skills taught in second grade and learning a few more new skills. The major concepts covered in third grade are addition and subtraction, multiplication, geometry, and measurement. The Math Expressions curriculum assists in the teaching of these concepts.
In science, students will use the Pearson Interactive Science program to study about plants, animals, scientific inquiry, and sound! This curriculum incorporates many hands on activities to make learning fun and engaging.
In social studies, students will spend time studying Omaha history and how our community has changed over time. Students will be given the opportunity to create their own business and present it at a business fair!
